Since opening our doors in 1971, we have helped thousands of young people and adults achieve hope, health and recovery. We have grown over the years in response to changing community needs and to keep pace with advances in addiction science and new models of integrated behavioral and physical care. Through the years, we have remained committed to our core values and our mission to provide our communities access to world-class primary care, addictions treatment, behavioral health care and prevention services to promote health and restore lives.
In 1971, Adapt welcomed its first patients in Douglas County. Adapt was founded at a time of increased local and national attention on the negative health and social consequences of alcohol and other drug addiction. Originally providing addiction treatment and prevention services, Adapt now offers comprehensive addiction treatment, mental health care, primary care and prevention services for children, adolescents, adults and families in four Southern Oregon counties—Douglas, Josephine, Coos and Curry.
The Crossroads Residential Care opens to provide adult residential treatment for men and women in a safe, secure and therapeutic treatment environment. The Crossroads is a regional residential treatment center for the greater southwest Oregon.
School-Based Substance Use Prevention and Intervention services provided to Douglas County school districts.
Youth Outpatient Treatment Program launched to provide age-appropriate assessment and treatment services for adolescents and their families.
Deer Creek Youth Residential Treatment Center opens to provide life-changing care for adolescents who struggle with substance use and co-occurring behavioral health conditions. Deer Creek is a regional residential treatment center for the greater southwest Oregon.
Outpatient for Women
Adapt launched intensive outpatient treatment for pregnant and parenting women with substance abuse or substance dependence problems.
Adapt begins work in cooperation with the corrections system to provide treatment and education for offenders with alcohol and other drug dependency problems.
Adapt invited to provide substance use treatment and recovery services in Josephine County.
Coos and Curry Counties
Adapt invited to provide substance use treatment and recovery services in Coos and Curry Counties.
Residential Substance Abuse Treatment offered in Douglas County jail as a sentencing option for qualifying cases where the underlying issues are drug related. Upon successful completion of RSAT, participants enter the Drug Court Program as an aftercare program.
SouthRiver Community Health Center opens in response to community need for primary care in Winston and surrounding communities. In 2012, SouthRiver achieved Federally Qualified Health Center status, and has expanded over the years to offer comprehensive primary care and behavioral health services for children, adolescents and adults, with a special commitment to those who are uninsured, low-income and medically underserved.
Hillside Terrace supportive housing opens in Winston to provide a safe and sober living environment for parents in recovery and their children.
Community Mental Health Program transitions to Adapt and delivers care under the name of Compass Behavioral Health, reflecting a new direction in providing integrated behavioral health care to Douglas County.
Medically-Monitored Sub-Acute Detoxification offered at Adapt’s residential treatment center for adults experiencing withdrawal from alcohol, opioids or other drugs.
Fresh Start Day Treatment Center opens in Coos County, offering adult day treatment and temporary housing for individuals in treatment.
Opioid Treatment Center opens in Douglas County in response to opioid epidemic, receiving national CARF accreditation in 2018.
Adapt designated Local Mental Health Authority and Community Mental Health Program by Douglas County Board of Commissioners.
Eveningside supportive housing opens in Josephine County to provide a safe and sober living environment for families in recovery.
Opioid Treatment Program opens in Coos County in response to opioid epidemic, receiving national CARF accreditation in 2019.
SouthRiver Community Health Center expands to offer integrated primary care and behavioral health care to Roseburg and surrounding communities.
Work begins in cooperation with Douglas County’s Local Public Safety Coordinating Council and local law enforcement to provide an alternative to jail or emergency department for public intoxicated individuals.
50 Years of Caring
Adapt marks 50 years of service and announces in a new name that reflects the organization’s growth and transition to fully integrated care. Effective April 2021, services provided under the names of Adapt, Compass Behavioral Health, and SouthRiver Community Health Center are provided under the name of Adapt Integrated Health Care.
Achieved fully-integrated primary care, mental health care, and substance use treatment in April 2021 with a major technology upgrade to OCHIN/Epic platform to support care coordination and integration of practice management and electronic health record system.
Sobering Center officially opens in Douglas County in cooperation with Douglas County’s Local Public Safety Coordinating Council and local law enforcement.
Effective January 1, 2022, Adapt serves as the Community Mental Health Program for Curry County, with offices in Brookings, Gold Beach, and Port Orford.
