Recovery Road 5k: Celebrating Journeys and Voices of Recovery

Adapt, alongside Thrive Umpqua, the Umpqua Valley BIPOC Community, and our treasured Douglas County community partners, is thrilled to recap the success of the Douglas County Recovery Road 5k, held on Saturday, September 30th, 2023.

The cornerstone of this free event, hosted by our dedicated team, was to recognize and honor those who have journeyed through recovery and those who have championed others in taking strides toward it. We celebrated with poignant speeches from individuals who’ve traversed the path of recovery, including this year’s Voices of Recovery: Matt and Melissa Richardson. Their stories resonated deeply, reminding us of the strength, resilience, and community spirit present in Douglas County.

Moreover, our event was enriched by mesmerizing performances from local and regional talents. The Cow Creek Drum Wik’Asi, Wayne Ellesworth, and the incredible Daniel French ensured the event’s ambiance was lively and heartwarming.

Furthermore, we took the time to appreciate those who’ve made significant contributions to local recovery, casting a spotlight on their tireless efforts to make a difference. Our speakers, Dr. Terri Lundy, Jennifer Pirtle, Nathaniel Wright, and Ei-Shah Pirtle-Wright shared valuable insights from the stage about their unique experiences with the road to recovery and how each of us are impacted by recovery in our community.

Our day started early, fostering connections. At 8:00 AM, attendees had the wonderful opportunity to mingle with various community groups, creating bonds and sharing stories. For those enthusiastic about the run, registration commenced at 9:00 AM, with the event officially kicking off at 9:30 AM. The energy remained high through 1:00 PM, filled with music, shared experiences, and cherished moments with the community!

In reflection, every step taken during the Recovery Road 5k symbolized the profound impact of recovery in our community. As we look ahead, we’re filled with anticipation and excitement for next year’s event and can’t wait to celebrate and honor even more stories of resilience and determination!
