Adapt Selected to Participate in National Community of Practice for Tobacco and Cancer Control

Adapt—a regional provider of integrated behavioral health and primary care services—was selected as one of only 10 organizations nationally to participate in the Council for Behavioral Health Community of Practice for Tobacco and Cancer Control.

Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the 7-month initiative brings together national experts and organizations that provide direct services to people with mental illnesses and substance use disorders to develop programs and policies to reduce tobacco use and prevent tobacco-related disease. Adapt was selected in recognition of clinical innovation in the delivery of evidence-based tobacco dependence treatment.

Tobacco use is one of the greatest drivers of adverse health outcomes and costs. People with mental illnesses and substance use disorders use tobacco more than the general population and have higher rates of tobacco-related health problems. Research has shown that people with mental illness or substance use disorders want to quit and, more importantly, can quit with effective treatment. For quit help, visit www.adaptoregon.org/quitnow.
