Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Sue Ellis is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who provides compassionate, patient‑centered mental health care to individuals across lifespan, including children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. She takes a holistic approach to care, recognizing the connection between mental, physical, emotional, and social wellbeing. Sue believes that everyone has the capacity to live their best life, and she partners with patients to help them move toward greater balance, resilience, and overall wellness.

Sue earned her doctoral degree and Family Nurse Practitioner training from the University of Arizona and completed her post‑doctoral education at Azusa Pacific University in California. Her clinical practice includes comprehensive psychiatric assessment, medication management, and individualized treatment planning grounded in evidence‑based care and thoughtful clinical judgment. She values collaboration, transparency, and shared decision‑making, ensuring that treatment plans align with each patient’s goals, values, and lived experience.

In addition to her clinical work, Sue has an extensive background in education and professional leadership. She has taught both family practice and psychiatry at the University of San Diego, serving in both clinical and didactic roles. In recognition of her expertise and leadership in advanced practice nursing, she was selected as one of ten nurse scholars to develop the first Psychiatric Certificate Examination for the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, completed in 2024. Sue remains passionate about advancing psychiatric nursing practice through education, mentorship, and excellence in patient care.
