Adapt announced an initiative to help address the need for transitional housing in Grants Pass for people recovering from opioid and other substance use disorders.
“The lack of safe, stable and affordable housing for those in recovery is a barrier for many members of our community,” said Dr. Gregory Brigham, Adapt CEO. “Eveningside Transitional Housing in Grants Pass will offer much-needed temporary housing for child-welfare involved parents in recovery and their children.” The initiative was made possible through a joint effort of the Oregon Health Authority Health Systems Division, Oregon Department of Human Services Child Welfare Program, and Adapt.
Transitional housing, along with supportive services, allows families to concentrate on their recovery rather than worrying about where they will spend the night. Eveningside offers a range of essential recovery services, including employment assistance, renter rehabilitation programs, peer support services and parenting skills classes. Eveningside is centrally located and close to public transportation, grocery stores, schools, parks and other neighborhood amenities. Residents live independently with the support of a peer mentor to help them successfully achieve stable housing and self-sufficiency. All residents are engaged in an Adapt treatment program or another local treatment program to support sustained health and recovery.
The Oregon Department of Human Services Child Welfare Program for the Grants Pass area, in cooperation with Adapt, will arrange placements at Eveningside to ensure that housing and the necessary supports are in place to safely reunite children with their families and to foster family health and resilience. “We’re grateful for the many community partners who have contributed to the success of this initiative, including the folks with Sleep In Heavenly Peace who donated children’s bunk beds and Every Child for their contribution of cribs, toddler beds, and children’s supplies,” said Diane Dubow, Ph.D., Adapt Grants Pass Program Director.
Two grants totaling $480,000 from Oregon Health Authority Health Systems Division helped fund acquisition and remodeling of an existing apartment complex in Grants Pass. Operational costs will be paid for with support from Grants Pass Child Welfare and additional grants and reimbursements.
