Art of Prevention

May 15 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Calling young artists of Douglas County! The Prevention and Education Program of Adapt Integrated Health Care is excited to announce our annual Art of Prevention art contest.

The Art of Prevention is a dedicated opportunity for Douglas County youth to express their understanding and experiences of substance misuse, suicidal ideation/self-harm, problem gambling/gaming, and/or resilience through artwork, utilizing the medium of their choice. The artwork serves as a therapeutic outlet where difficult feelings and emotions may be more easily expressed than through conversation. It also serves as an educational tool to spread prevention messaging to peers and communities at large. Increased awareness and understanding of these behavioral health effects is a proven effective prevention strategy.

Youth, grades 6-12, are eligible to enter up to 3 art pieces into this year’s contest. Artwork must portray a prevention message and be submitted by the contest deadline (April 8, 2024) to qualify for judging. First ($250), second ($150), and third ($100) place prizes will be awarded based on artwork creativity and the inclusion of a positive prevention message.

Contest entries will be displayed at the Art of Prevention art show on Wednesday, May 15 from 5-7pm at Adapt Integrated Health Care (621 W Madrone St, Roseburg, OR). Artists are encouraged to stand alongside their artwork during the show. Friends, family, and the entire community are invited to view and celebrate the contest’s artwork, vote on your favorite entries, and enjoy some light refreshments. We can’t wait to see you there!
